Proclamation Of Victims And Survivors Of Crime Week

The Saskatoon Police Service, in collaboration with Family Service Saskatoon, invites people to join us next Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. to proclaim the week of May 26 to June 1, 2019 as Victims and Survivors of Crime Week.

The Government of Canada, Department of Justice has choose the theme this year to be The Power of Collaboration. The theme highlights the work that service providers and professionals do together to create a better experience for victims and survivors of crime by advocating for them, giving them information, and providing them with meaningful support.

Family Service Saskatoon provides services and support to victims of those appearing in the Saskatoon Domestic Violence Court through its Domestic Violence Court Caseworker and Intimate Partner Violence Outreach programs. Caseworkers work closely with the Saskatoon Police Service and other Saskatoon Domestic Violence Court partners to assist victims. The goal of the week is to raise awareness about the issues facing victims and survivors of crime and about the services, assistance and laws in place to help victims, survivors, and their families. Victim and Survivors of Crime Week is also a time to acknowledge the work of service providers and their dedication in assisting victims and survivors of crime and their families.

The proclamation ceremony will take place on the front steps of SPS HQ at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29th. Refreshments to follow.
