Update: Arrests - Firearms Investigation - 100 Block Avenue J South

The Saskatoon Police Service Guns and Gangs Unit has charged two people in connection to a firearms investigation.

On June 28th, 2022, Police began a firearms investigation on a residence in the 100 block of Avenue J South. At around 2:30 p.m., officers observed a 16-year-old male leaving the residence, carrying a bag. The suspect had entered a taxi, but a traffic stop was initiated and he was arrested without further incident. The 16-year-old was found to have a sawed off rifle in the bag, along with ammunition.

Shortly after, a 31-year-old woman was observed leaving the residence and attempted to leave the area in a vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated and she was arrested without further incident. She was found to have ammunition on her person.

A search warrant was then executed on the residence, with assistance from the Tactical Support Unit. More ammunition was located inside the house.

The 16-year-old male is charged with Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, Possession of firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, and Breach of Conditions.

The 31-year-old woman is charged with Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, and Breach of Conditions.

  All traffic restrictions have been lifted on Avenue J South, between 21st Street West and 22nd Street West.  The investigation is still ongoing and updates will be provided upon conclusion.

There is currently a police presence in the 100 block of Avenue J South 

Patrol Officers and the Tactical Support Unit are on scene. Residents and drivers are asked to avoid the area and should expect a police presence and traffic restrictions on Avenue J South, between 21st Street West and 22nd Street West.

Updates will be provided upon conclusion of this investigation.
