The outstanding suspect from a May 17th homicide was arrested over the weekend.
On May 24, 2025, police arrested and charged a 26-year-old man with First Degree Murder (Court Info # 991304381).
A 27-year-old man is also charged with First Degree Murder (Court Info # 991303759).
The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Matthew Brabant.
Members of the Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Section are investigating Saskatoon’s third homicide of the year.
At approximately 5:00 a.m., May 17, 2025, police responded to a motel in the 2000 block of Avenue B North after it was reported a person was suffering from a gunshot wound. Inside, an injured 20-year-old male was located and transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A 27yr old male has been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. A second male, identified as 26-year-old Lawrence Opikowew, is still outstanding and considered armed and dangerous. Opikokew is described as being Indigenous, 6’4” in height, 190 lbs, with short black hair and brown eyes.
